Sail Me Away, a song for my father. Pete, Tino and I
did this song for our father at his funeral. We decided to record it for MNF as
a way to preserve the memory of that day. We also did Joel at dad’s funeral, we
really wanted to record that one because out if the five songs we did at the
funeral Joel came out the best. Nevertheless, sadly someone else claimed the
rights to that one before we could. Classic Daniel Amos, the Daniel Amos my
oldest brother, Tino, grew up with. Anything after Alarma Tino has a hard time
listening too, thank God for The Dogs. Sail Me Away was a song that he grabbed
onto right away. He did the vocals and guitar work on this one. Pete did the
bass line and I provided the backing vocals. Terry has always been a prolific
songwriter, even when he was just starting out. Imagine if he had stuck with the
original Daniel Amos sound!! Where would we be today?? But I like the subtleness
in the transition of their sound, from Daniel Amos to Shotgun Angel to
Horrendous Disc there was a smooth transition in those albums. Of course with
Alarma he kinda just slapped everyone in the face.

This whole experience has been a pleasure for all three of us. Doing this project together has helped us all to appreciate the various skills we each have. I am also submitting this recording with a completely new respect for what Daniel Amos/Lost Dogs do to record such brilliant music. This was a hard task and if it was hard with two songs, I can only imagine recording ten songs. My respect for Terry Scott Taylor grows ever more, and I pray that he continues to create the wonderful sounds that have helped shape both my life and spiritual walks. I really do miss Gene; the Dogs suffered a monumental loss when God called him home. Mike Roe, on my top 5 list of guitar players. I respect his sound and what he has done to inspire and lead musicians such as myself. Mike proved to me that Christian music did not have to be boring, it could ROCK! Derri, man what a voice! Tim Chandler, my man on the Damb! Thanks Tim for chatting with us lowly little fans. Greg Flesch, rocket man and axe grinder for DA, also on my Top 5 list. Ed, super drummer, I started out playing drums and Ed was one of the first drummers I really listened too. And many thanks to everyone whose ever worked with or in Daniel Amos that I missed, the list is extensive. Thanks to everyone on the Damb and The 77’s message boards. Also, thanks to Bill Harmon and the Strawmen, keep making that great music brother, we will all triumph someday! Finally thanks to Carl Spacone (BIG DORK) for putting this thing together and allowing us to participate. Carl you are a blessing to all and your dedication is much appreciated, I love you man!

3rd man:
(Tenderly to his wife)
My love, I had a dream last night
I saw a rider on the wind
A stranger to my eyes
Was on the outside lookin' in
And the land he's longing for
Is on a dim and distant shore
Of my life
My love, I heard a pilgrim's call
I saw it was forsaking all
I cried because I knew (yes I know)
It meant my leaving you
But the riches that I gain
Outweigh the losses that remain
In my life
(To the Lord)
Chorus:
Sail me away (I want to go with you)
Sail me away (sail away, sail away, sail away)
(Repeat three times)
(To his wife)
My love the man is older now
Yet wisdom was the guiding light
That led him on to foreign lands (far away)
Though he's never left your side
And the treasure that I bare
Is now all I seek to share
In my life
Repeat chorus
