| Why Tattoo: To my knowledge, the 77s never fully-produced Tattoo (unless you're holding out on us, Mike!) but if a song rocks in its demo form, it's a great song. It's fun to play it live because you instantly lock in to that groove. CCM bands who seem to write lyrics by mixing up a bunch of Christian buzzwords in a bingo ball, would have written "Oh Lord, make me ever-mindful of your awesome presence... keep me always in the glory of your gracious beauty" or something like that. "Write me on your skin" is a better word picture. And this song has one of my favorite bridges ever..., it just keeps building and building til it just about explodes. I've covered Tattoo with my former band, The Orphans, so I already knew it, and I was listening to a lot of the Dandy Warhols when I did this particular version. FOR YOU TECHIES... I recorded it on a Mac G4 using Reason 2.5 (an awesome program that handled all the synth and loop sounds) and Logic 6, where the vocals, guitar and drum samples lived. The Guitar sound was a Rickenbacker 360 through a silverface Fender Champ (all 6 watts of it) being driven by a Fulltone Fulldrive pedal, tracked twice. Hope you enjoy it! |
